Field Trip: Buffalo Soldiers National Museum

7:01 PM

Yesterday, Lundy and I went to the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum for the first time... and WOW is all I can say. It's crazy to me how much of American History is still not told in schools.

"African Americans have fought in military conflicts since colonial days. However, the Buffalo Soldiers, comprised of former slaves, freemen and Black Civil War soldiers, were the first to serve during peacetime. Throughout the era of the Indian Wars, approximately twenty percent of the U.S. Cavalry troopers were Black, and they fought over 177 engagements. The combat prowess, bravery, tenaciousness, and looks on the battlefield, inspired the Indians to call them Buffalo Soldiers. The name symbolized the Native American’s respect for the Buffalo Soldiers’ bravery and valor. Buffalo Soldiers, down through the years, have worn the name with pride."

These black men and women did amazing things for our country even though they were treated like sh*t (to put it plainly). They opened the doors for so many others who came after them, including my grandfather and brother.

This museum is a MUST SEE!
