Officially a Saing.

7:17 AM

Oh my gosh, changing my last name was craziness.... mainly do to all the research we had to do. However, it was a great experience. Below are tips that can help your process be smoother... and maybe even fun.

What I learned:
(We live in Texas so it might be different in other states)

1. Be careful googling "how to change my last name", because not ever website is correct.
We learned this the hard way. One site, I think it was TheKnot, said you need to have your marriage certificate with your new last name on it - this is not true.

2. Change your Social Security card first. Why? Because from there it makes things a lot easier. Tip - go on a weekday (if you can) and get there 1 hour before the office opens. Believe me, it may sound crazy but when you get there you'll thank me. When the doors opened there were over 70 people in line!

3. Read a head of time what you need to bring to the different places. For the Social Security office - bring the forms, birth certificate, drivers licence, and marriage certificate. This makes everything go faster.

4. Do this as a couple. Make a day of it with your new husband. This is something I believe couples should do together, because it is another special day in your lives. It's the day you become one family on paper. We took Wednesday off and made a day of it. We woke up at 6:00am and finished everything by 1:00pm. Afterwards, we went to our favorite restaurant for lunch and shopping at the mall. It is a special day I will always remember.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Now time for people to look at me weird when I hand them my credit card. "Uh, can I see some ID Mrs. Saing?"
